Vegan Hoisin Sauce
If you’re looking for a super quick and easy hoisin sauce to add to your Chinese dishes, then no look no further! With a balance of sweet, salty and tangy flavours, this sauce brings out an intense umami flavour to the food it’s added to (and a little goes a long way).
Also called as Chinese barbecue sauce, It’s perfect for grilling, glazes, stir-fries and in gravies. You can also use it as a dipping sauce, marinade or a dressing. It’s versatile, flavourful and tastes the best when made from scratch!
INGREDIENTS:-
- 4 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp peanut butter, creamy
- 2 tsp white vinegar
- 2 tsp red chilli sauce (or to taste)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder or 1 clove garlic, grated
- 1 tsp maple syrup (optional)
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp water
INSTRUCTIONS: –
- Heat a small saucepan over medium heat and add all the ingredients except for cornstarch.
- Whisk until the peanut butter has dissolved.
- In a small bowl, combine cornstarch and water to form a smooth slurry.
- Stir in the slurry to the sauce pan and let it simmer for 1-2 minutes or until the mixture begins to thicken.
- Remove from heat and allow the sauce to cool before transferring to a glass jar.
